Closed Classrooms are Killing Nevada Kids…Literally!

by Annie Black January 25, 2021
written by Annie Black

(Annie Black) – Even as other Democrat governors begin reopening their states now that President Trump is no longer in the White House, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak continues with his iron grip on the state’s economic throat while doing nothing (other than talk) to reopen our public schools.

With deadly results.

“Since schools shut their doors in March,” the New York Times reported over the weekend, “an early-warning system that monitors students’ mental health episodes has sent more than 3,100 alerts to (Clark County School District) officials, raising alarms about suicidal thoughts, possible self-harm or cries for care.

“By December, 18 students had taken their own lives.”

Tragic.

And make no mistake.  The fact that so many public-school classrooms remain shuttered is due to the teachers’ unions that continue to object to teachers being forced to show up in person for their jobs even as store clerks, cashiers and waitresses show up for theirs.

The decisions to continue blocking the schoolhouse doors so kids can’t get in are purely political.  The “science” Gov. Sisolak continues to claim is behind his shutdown decisions was settled long ago.

There is simply NO scientific or health reason to keep classrooms closed.

The teachers’ unions don’t care.

If the government is going to continue barricading public school classrooms, parents should be rebated the money allotted to their kids’ education so they can move them into a private school, charter school or homeschool.

In 2015, Republicans in the Nevada Legislature created universal Education Savings Accounts (ESA’s) providing parents about $5,000 per child to send their kids to the school of THEIR choice, not the government’s.

Just as food stamps can be used at private grocery stores.

But in 2019, after regaining control of the Legislature and the governor’s office, Democrats killed ESA’s.  That decision is now killing some of our kids…literally.

Yesterday marked the start of School Choice Week.  And never has it been more important.

But don’t hold your breath waiting for Democrats in the Nevada Legislature to bring back ESA’s.  They’re more worried about getting support from the teachers’ unions than supporting your kids.

Fund students, not schools.

LAST CHANCE to Sign “Unlock Nevada” Petition

The 2021 session of the Nevada Legislature begins in one week (grab your wallets!) and I’m driving up from Las Vegas today.

Since I’ll be on the road and inaccessible most of the day – and since people are still going online to sign my “Unlock Nevada & End the Sisolak Shutdown” petition – I’m going to extend the deadline until tomorrow.

Then we’ll add all your names to the bottom of the petition, print out 63 copies, and hand-deliver one to every legislator so they have it before next Monday.

If you want to add your name to the list, sign now or forever hold your peace!

QUOTES OF THE DAY

“We lost a senior at my son’s high school to suicide, his depression exacerbated by quarantine.” – Asra Q. Nomani

“Kids are killing themselves because of isolation while teachers’ unions are fighting to keep schools closed despite schools not being a serious vector of disease transmission. Never forget this.” – Sonny Bunch

“Teachers unions have proven to be one of the most destructive organizations in American society.” – John Cooper

“By pushing to keep schools closed even as evidence mounted that in-person classes were relatively low-risk and remote learning was ineffective, teachers’ unions failed students and parents.” – Peter Suderman, Reason magazine

“The teachers union is coming for more money at the (Nevada Legislature), yet are resisting any plan to reopen. Families are suffering. Kids are losing opportunities.” – Deborah Earl

“Time for the funds to be allocated to students and allow them to go elsewhere for their educational needs. Teachers unions don’t have a right to hold children’s education hostage to their own fears.” – William Tyson

“Education funding is supposed to be meant for educating children – not for protecting a government monopoly. We should fund students instead of institutions.” – Corey DeAngelis

“It is those with the least access to school choice who suffer the most. Wealthy families can afford to buy laptops, pay tuition for independent schools or even hire private tutors for one-on-one lessons. By contrast, poorer students often face difficulties even accessing the internet for online learning.” – Valeria Gurr

“If you homeschool you should get a voucher from your taxes in order to buy different types of curriculum and school supplies.” – Clark County School District Trustee Katie Williams

Sisolak’s Proposed Budget a Slap Across Nevada’s Face

by Annie Black January 19, 2021
written by Annie Black

(Annie Black) – As Nevada’s economy continues to gush red ink, thanks to Gov. Steve Sisolak’s seemingly never-ending authoritarian and heavy-handed “emergency” shutdown orders, the governor is proposing a budget Band-Aid when a tourniquet is called for.

In a summary of his Executive Budget released on Monday, the governor proposes cutting state government spending in the next biennium by a measly…2 percent.

But even that’s not quite what it seems.

During a special session last July, the Legislature reduced current general fund spending to $8.35 billion.  But the governor’s proposed new budget is set at $8.69 billion.

So in reality, the governor is actually proposing a spending INCREASE over current spending while the state is STILL reeling from the Sisolak Shutdown.

That’s not only fiscally irresponsible, but an insult to Nevadans who have suffered unmercifully under his dictatorial reign for the last ten months.

Hang on.  It’s actually even worse than THAT.

While Gov. Sisolak divided Nevada’s private sector workers into “essential” and “non-essential” and forced the “non-essential” ones into the unemployment line, he hasn’t done the same for government employees.

Indeed, while hundreds of thousands of Nevadans have been laid off, some permanently, state government employees – both essential and non-essential – face only six days of unpaid “furloughs” for this entire coming year.  And no furloughs for the second year.

So much for the governor’s claim that we’re “all in this together.”

Instead of increasing non-essential government spending, we should be cutting non-essential government spending.

Instead of furloughing essential government employees, we should be laying off non-essential government employees.

Instead of tax hikes – or, as Michelle White, the governor’s chief-of-staff, deceptively calls them, “augmentation or refinements” – we should be cutting taxes and fees.

Instead of burdening Nevada businesses with restrictions, fines and harassment from inspectors and enforcers, we should be cutting government regulations.

Instead of keeping Nevada families on virtual house arrest, we should be taking steps to limit ANY governor’s ability to so badly abuse the privilege of “emergency” one-man or one-woman rule in the future.

If you agree, please add your name to the hundreds who have already signed my online petition calling on the Legislature to override the governor’s “emergency” directives, immediately unlock Nevada and end the Sisolak Shutdown.

QUOTES OF THE DAY

“What scares me most is not the fact that our media is lying to us. It’s the fact that most of you believe them.” – Matt Couch

“Some people seem to think that the answer to all of life’s imperfections is to create a government agency to correct them. If that is your approach, then go straight to totalitarianism. Do not pass ‘Go.’ Do not collect $200.” – Thomas Sowell

“Are there real problems with how elections were conducted in 2020?  Absolutely.” – Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter/columnist Debra Saunders, 1/15/21

Sign Our Petition to Unlock Nevada and End the Sisolak Shutdown

by Annie Black January 15, 2021
written by Annie Black

(Annie Black) – In invoking dictatorial powers to address the COVID-19 pandemic last March, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak declared such powers were afforded to him by state law.

He has abused those powers for over ten months now, choking the life out of our state’s economy and doing irreparable harm to the lives and livelihoods of Nevada’s citizens.

No politician should be allowed to have such unlimited power for an unlimited duration.

The Nevada Legislature is schedule to convene again on February 1, 2021.

Please click on the link below to add your name to AnniePAC’s new petition – adopted from a similar resolution passed by the Elko County Commission on January 6, 2021 – calling on legislators to immediately Unlock Nevada and End the Sisolak Shutdown.

I will hand-deliver copies of this petition, with everyone’s name on it, to each Nevada State Senator and Assemblyman on Day One of the 2021 session on your behalf.

Thank you for helping to make Nevada a better place to live and work.

Assemblywoman Annie Black
Nevada Assembly District 19

P.S.  In order to get hard copies of the petition printed with your name on it for distribution on the first day of the session, please go online and add your name by MIDNIGHT, JANUARY 24, 2021.

Sisolak Extends His Reign of Error

by Annie Black January 12, 2021
written by Annie Black

(Annie Black) – Nevadans want to know when the COVID vaccine will be available to them and when the state will reopen.  To answer those questions, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak held what talk-show host Heidi Harris now calls a “De-Presser” on Monday afternoon.

It was the latest example of just how incoherent the governor’s entire mishandling of the crisis has been.  Here’s how he explained his THIRD version for vaccine distribution.  See if you can figure out what the heck he’s talking about…

“We are moving away from a Tiered structure to focus on ‘lanes’ of vaccination that will run concurrently. This changes the structure of our playbook and plan going forward but does not impact the counties already moving into what was previously identified as Tier 2.

“The other lane which will be operating concurrently is ‘Frontline/Essential Workforce.’  They will also be getting vaccinated in priority order. … We are no longer using the tiered approach & have updated the playbook to streamline & simplify prioritization. Frontline/Essential Workforce categories are now prioritized in buckets.”

Translation:  I have no idea what I’m doing.

This is all political mush-mouth double-talk designed to distract Nevadans from the fact that, despite knowing the vaccine was coming for months, his roll-out and distribution has been a flop.  Consider…

According to Bill Dentzer of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Nevada “has received 170,400 doses of the vaccine to date.”  But according to Gov. Sisolak, only 61,644 have been administered.

Now compare and contrast…

According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), South Dakota – under the leadership of Gov. Kristi Noem, who has never ordered a lockdown or issued a mandatory mask order – is leading the nation in the number of vaccines administered per 100,000 people.

Gov. Sisolak’s Nevada is the 7th WORST.

As Heidi Harris put it this morning: “Great job on the jab, @GovSisolak!”

But have no fear.  Megan Messerly reported: “Sisolak announced that he has asked the ‘best logistical leaders’ in the state to review what’s working and what isn’t with vaccinations.”

Lord, I hope they’re not the same “logistical leaders” who’ve been running DETR!

Also on Monday, the governor again extended his reign of error on shutdowns.

In mid-March he told us the #SisolakShutdown would be for 30 days to “flatten the curve.” Then he extended it.  Then he allowed for a partial re-opening for some “non-essential” businesses.  Then he mandated masks, even in your own home.  Then he issued a 30-day “pause” and cut capacity limits from 50% to 25%.

On Monday he doubled-down (his words, not mine)…

“At this time & for planning purposes, we are looking to keep these measures in place for another 30 days.  At the time I announced these measures, I called it a ‘Pause,’ because I truly hoped they would only have to last for a short period.”

“Hoped”?  He’s hurting all of our lives and livelihoods on wishful thinking?  What’s the “science” behind that?

It’s abundantly clear the governor’s Soviet-like, heavy-handed command-and-control policies haven’t worked.  In fact, they’ve been both a health and economic disaster.

But rather than admit he’s totally mismanaged this crisis and consult with the 63 members of the Legislature, Gov. Sisolak keeps doing what he’s always done and we keep getting what we’ve always gotten:  Screwed.

Heck, even New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo appears to have finally come around.  Here’s what he said on Monday…

“We cannot stay closed until the vaccine hits critical mass.  The cost is too high.  We will have nothing left to open.  We must reopen the economy, but we must do it smartly and safely.”

Which, by the way, was pretty much the same thing Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman said LAST APRIL.

I’ll close with one final observation demonstrating just how confusing, contradictory and non-sensical the governor’s mismanagement of this crisis has been…

The Associated Press reported on Tuesday that “California’s coronavirus catastrophe reached a staggering new level Monday.”  Yet Gov. Sisolak continues to encourage Californians to come to Nevada while at the same time telling Nevadans to stay in their homes.

How does that make sense?

The answer isn’t 15,000 contradictory and discriminatory versions of government-ordered lockdowns.  Gov. Sisolak can’t make the virus disappear by executive order.  The answer is to unlock Nevada and let Nevadans – and even Californians – decide which risks to take.

If you want to stay in your home wearing a mask, stay in your home wearing a mask.  If you want to go to work and provide for your family, go to work and provide for your family.  If you want to send your kids to school, send your kids to school (if the teachers union will let you).  If you want to shop at Walmart, shop at Walmart.  If you want to have a birthday party at your house, have a birthday party at your house.

The government is not our mommy.  Just leave us alone.  We got this.

Resign?  Here’s My Answer…

by Annie Black January 10, 2021
written by Annie Black

(Annie Black) – WARNING: There is extreme profanity included in this AnnieGram.  I apologize in advance, but think it’s important to reprint the authors’ words verbatim so you can see just how deranged and unhinged these people are.

If such language offends you, please stop reading when you get to the second warning below.  Otherwise…

As chronicled in Friday’s AnnieGram, I flew to Washington, DC to attend Wednesday’s “Stop the Steal” rally that was marred by some fringe elements who assaulted police officers and damaged property.

THEY should be punished.  Severely.  Not those of us who simply exercised our constitutional right to peaceably assemble and “petition the government for a redress of grievances” related to how the 2020 elections were conducted.

To be absolutely clear: I wasn’t part of the march down Pennsylvania Avenue, never entered the Capitol and didn’t cross the barricades.  In fact, here’s a shot from where I was standing as people started climbing the steps…

But that doesn’t matter to the unhinged left bent on “cancelling” anyone with an opinion different from theirs.  So naturally, calls rang out on Thursday demanding that I resign as your representative in the Nevada State Assembly.

For example, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee issued a demand “for every Republican legislator involved in the insurrection to resign immediately.”

Chimed in Karl Catarata, a City of Las Vegas employee who works for Democrat Councilman Brian Knudsen…

“‪@RealAnnieBlack literally aided and abetted criminals. Any legislator near her should call for her resignation and or expulsion. Simple.”

I don’t think there’s a more eloquent way to respond than to quote U.S. Army Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe when the Germans demanded his surrender on December 22, 1944 at the Battle of the Bulge in World War II…

“N U T S !”

For those who may not understand the slang, you’re not alone.  Here’s how the Associated Press explained it at the time…

When the officer handed McAuliffe’s answer to the German officer waiting just outside the American perimeter of defense, the latter asked: “Is your commander’s reply favorable? If it is, I am empowered to continue negotiations of terms.”

“My commander’s reply is ‘Nuts,'” the American responded.  “What does that mean?” asked the German.  “It means go to hell,” replied the American.  That the German understood. He saluted and marched off.

I’m not going anywhere.  Though it appears Republican Assembly Minority Leader Robin Titus wishes otherwise.

She issued a statement on Friday – on the “Nevada Assembly Democratic Caucus” letterhead and co-signed with Democrat Assembly Speaker Jason Frierson – that I consider to be a not-so-veiled threat to kick me out of the Legislature.

I think she’s still mad that I chose not to join her caucus.

If Ms. Titus and Mr. Frierson want to try not to seat a duly elected representative for lawfully exercising her constitutional rights simply because they don’t like what I stand for and believe…well, I’ll let THEM explain that to YOU.

But their joint statement was mild compared to what some Twitter trolls wrote – mostly anonymous; many from out of state – demanding my resignation.

I was called a “lying traitor,” a “disgrace to humanity,” “dangerous,” a “domestic terrorist,” a “murderer,” “un-American,” “disgusting,” a “seditionist,” a “conspirator,” “reprehensible,” a “treacherous blight,” and my personal favorite, “Insurrection Annie.”

And some guy named Charlie Cremer naturally went here…

“You run with Nazis, you are a Nazi.”

But even those paled in comparison to emails sent to me by some deranged lunatics…

(WARNING: EXTREME PROFANITY)

  • “You are a worthless piece of shit that your momma should have swallowed. I hope you go to prison for a long time. Fuck You. … I hope your kids learn what you did and hate your guts. Burn in hell cunt.” – Jon Newman (sabbath1509@yahoo.com)
  • “Ms Black, you are a pathetic excuse for a human being and truly a waste of human flesh. Please resign…Nevada doesn’t need a scabby cunt like you in our state government!” – Larry Walter (larrywalter72@gmail.com)
  • “Hope you like representing Mesquite from the slammer, you traitorous cunt.” – Anonymous

Gee, I can’t imagine why more people don’t want to run for public office!

To wrap up, I want to thank certain members of the media who have handled reporting on this controversy professionally and objectively.  Here are links to their stories…

  • David Charns | Channel 8 | Las Vegas
  • Jaclyn Schultz | FOX 5 | Las Vegas
  • Lauren Clark | Channel 3 | Las Vegas
  • Rory Appleton | Las Vegas Review-Journal
  • Sam Metz | Associated Press

Oh, and Kevin Wall of KMZQ 670 AM, who himself got slammed just for interviewing me by some goof hiding behind the Twitter handle “BuzzIzarownd”…

“Love the dumbaases you have on !!!!  The fucking dumber the better – when will @AdamLaxalt be on as he’s the dumbest !!!”

And I especially want to thank Nevada Republican Party Chairman Mike McDonald – who, many of you might remember, I ran against for party chair in 2019 in a rather spirited, sometimes heated, race – for issuing this statement of support…

“Assemblywoman Black had every right to assemble in our Nation’s Capital. She did not break the law, participate in damaging property, or incite violence. In fact, she very clearly condemned those who broke the law. It’s ridiculous to be asking for her resignation for simply exercising her First Amendment right.”

Just proves that political opponents need not become mortal enemies.  Thank you for this, Mr. Chairman.

Lastly, one of the Twitter trolls wrote…

“Did the Nevada taxpayers pay for @RealAnnieBlack to fly all the way to DC…?”

Once again, sorry to disappoint.  I was there on my own time and my own dime.

Now, don’t we all have some football to get to?

Seditiously yours,

Insurrection Annie

P.S.  Those who broke into the Capitol, assaulted police officers and/or damaged property should be punished.  However, I just found this video clip of Capitol Police Officers opening the door for protestors and standing aside to let them in.

While some protestors did unlawfully “storm” the Capitol, others appear to have been welcomed in with open arms.

P.P.S.  Here’s a photo of your “dangerous seditionist” with my fiancé in front of the Washington Monument on Wednesday morning…

Pretty scary, huh?

QUOTES OF THE DAY

“If there be time to expose through discussion…falsehoods and fallacies…the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence.” – Justice Louis D. Brandeis

“To suppress free speech is a double wrong. It violates the rights of the hearer as well as those of the speaker.” – Frederick Douglass

“18 months ago, I never thought I’d be a Congresswoman.  I just got fed up.  If you’re out there fed up at the state of this country right now, you’ve got to decide what YOU can do to make the change yourself.  Don’t wait for others to make the difference. How My Trip to DC Didn’t Go Exactly as Planned

by Annie Black January 8, 2021
written by Annie Black

(Annie Black) – Forty-eight months ago I traveled to Washington, DC for the inauguration of President Donald Trump.  Forty-eight hours ago, I was again in our nation’s capital for the national “Stop the Steal” rally.

I’ve attended over a dozen Trump rallies over the past few years, including the one in Bullhead City in October.  They’ve been nothing but peaceful, fun events.  Wednesday’s started out that way…but went horribly and tragically wrong.

To be clear, Americans came to DC from all over the country to express frustration with and opposition to the manner in which the 2020 election was conducted.  This was not an act of “sedition” or “insurrection,” but an exercise of our fundamental free speech rights as U.S. citizens.

The same free speech rights claimed by Black Lives Matter protestors throughout the summer.

Sadly, I noticed a handful of people in the crowd acting very differently from the people at the previous rallies I attended.  More animated; “amped up.”  These guys seemed pre-disposed to turn this event into something it was never intended to be.

And contrary to media reporting, it wasn’t because of anything the President said in his remarks at The Ellipse.  In fact, here’s what the President actually said…

“So we’re going to — we’re going to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue. I love Pennsylvania Avenue. And we’re going to the Capitol.  And we’re going to try and give — the Democrats are hopeless, they never voted for anything. Not even one vote. But we’re going to try and give our Republicans – the weak ones because the strong ones don’t need any of our help – we’re going to try and give them the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country. So let’s walk down Pennsylvania Avenue. I want to thank you all. God bless you and God Bless America.”

“Let’s walk down Pennsylvania Avenue.”  Hardly a call for “sedition” and “insurrection.”

Anyway, because of the size of the crowd near the Ellipse, it was impossible to get close enough to see and hear the President speak.  But we’d heard he was also going to do a second speech at the Capitol.

So we made our way directly to the east side of the building, across from the Supreme Court, hoping to get a good spot early.  When we arrived, there was a guy near the barricades broadcasting the President’s Ellipse speech through a bullhorn.

Shortly after the President finished speaking, someone at the fence line started shouting to “storm the barrier.”

A man to the right of us – dressed in all-black but wearing a MAGA hat with a rainbow Trump flag draped around his shoulders like a cape – started shouting through a megaphone: “This is your house! They can’t stop you from going in there!”

It was clearly an orchestrated effort, egging people on to storm the Capitol.  But a group of people, who could see the instigators at the barrier to the right of us, started chanting, “They’re not MAGA!”

A family up front who could see what was going on was yelling “We don’t do this! Stop! This isn’t what we do!” while telling people to take a piece of the barricade that had been removed back to the fence line.

Next thing you know, people started breaking through the barrier.  At that point, we moved away and back toward the Supreme Court.

“We all had a choice when that fence came down,” I told Sam Metz of the Associated Press. “Whether it was our group that incited that to happen or another group, every single person had the choice to make.”

So for all you Black haters out there on social media accusing me of being a “seditious traitor” and “rioting with domestic terrorists,” sorry to disappoint you.

From the distance, we watched the crowd first stop at the bottom of the middle steps.  Then they went a little further up.  Then a little more.  Until they got to the top.  Then the entire building was surrounded and people somehow got inside.

Many of us suspected that maybe it was Antifa agitators who had infiltrated the crowd and set this whole debacle in motion.  And as the New York Post reported on Thursday…

“At least two known Antifa members were spotted among the throngs of pro-Trump protesters at the Capitol on Wednesday.  The Antifa members disguised themselves with pro-Trump clothing to join in the DC rioting… and were believed to have joined in the rioting so that Trump would get blamed, the source said.”

Added Aishah Hasnie of FOX News on Friday…

“I realize news outlets are ‘fact checking’ and ‘debunking’ ANTIFA claims, but NYPD source tells me known ANTIFA members were identified by undercovers in the crowd that stormed the Capitol. And more than just 2.”

I don’t know if this is true or not.

But I did see a video clip after getting back to my hotel room of a black-clad rioter in a black helmet using what looks like a billy club trying to smash a window as someone in the crowd repeatedly yelled, “Antifa!”

Then a Trump supporter in a red MAGA hat rushed up from the crowd and wrestled him to the ground.

Another video shows a black-clad rioter using a chair trying to break out a window.

It then shows the guy trying to run from a police officer, only to be tackled mid-air by Trump supporters as someone in the crowd shouts, “That’s not one of ours!”

Regardless.  I don’t care if they were Antifa, rogue Trump supporters, white nationalists, whatever.  Those who rioted inside the Capitol should be identified, arrested, charged, prosecuted and severely punished.

Which doesn’t diminish the concerns about election problems that brought thousands of us to DC on Wednesday in the first place.  And as Courtney Holland – another Trump supporter from Las Vegas who was at the rally – wrote…

“You know what’s possible to do all at once?  Condemn the violence.  Condemn voter fraud.  And condemn the media’s unfair coverage of today’s events versus the coverage they gave the riots over the summer when 30+ people died and businesses burned to the ground.”

What she said.

QUOTES OF THE DAY

“’Mayhem incited by Trump’ (NYT) ‘The president incited the mob’ (Liz Cheney). I’ve now listened to all 1 hr 11 min of Trump’s Wed. Ellipse speech and I’ll be damned if I can find any language inciting violence or mayhem.” – @kausmickey

“Yesterday was bad. Yesterday wasn’t terrorism, it wasn’t a coup, and it wasn’t close to what antifa did all summer with the media’s full blessing.  If you can’t honestly admit the above, you’re not allowed to be part of the conversation going forward.” – @Cernovich

“The media normalized rioting and now it’s throwing a fit over a riot because the wrong people did it. It’s not that hard to be consistent. Own up to it. All riots are bad, no matter who does it.” – Ian Miles Cheong

“The Capitol storming yesterday was indicative of what happens when rioting is repeatedly rewarded by the political elite and the media.” – Amber Athey

“The fact that practically every prominent conservative in the country immediately condemned lawbreakers & called for them to be brought to justice to fullest extent of the law, in contrast with what Democrats did all summer long, shows you the gulf of difference b/t the two sides.” – @bhweingarten

“Republicans today: Right-wing rioters were wrong and should be punished and left-wing rioters were wrong and should be punished.  Democrats today: Right-wing rioters were terrorists who attempted an insurrection and left-wing rioters over the summer were peaceful protesters.” – Ryan Saavedra

“Activists have spent the past two months making tremendous progress in the fight for election transparency & demanding free & fair elections.  Yesterday their efforts were hijacked by a handful of idiots.  Everyone who caused damaged to the Capitol yesterday should be prosecuted.” – @alexbruesewitz

Some Good, Bad & Ugly to Kick Off 2021…

by Annie Black January 2, 2021
written by Annie Black

(Annie Black) – On Thursday, Democrat Rep. Susie Lee sent out a fundraising email.  Here’s an excerpt…

“We need just $1,904 to reach our goal of raising $15,000 before the clock strikes 2021 — and I know you can make it happen.  This is a critical fundraising deadline, folks — and we only have a few hours left to make it.  We still need to raise $3,108 in order to reach our goal.”

So which is it…$1,904 or $3,108 to reach your artificial goal?

If you’ve ever suspected that politicians just make up fundraising numbers out of thin air to fool you…well, here’s your proof.

* * *

Lemme see if I can follow Ms. Lee’s example and do this right…

“The deadline for you to make a donation to AnniePAC – which helps me recruit, train and elect conservative candidates – is midnight tonight before the fundraising ‘blackout’ period begins.  We need either $1,904 or $3,108 to meet our goal – depending on which math major is cooking our books.  Oh, and your contribution will be 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x matched…whichever makes you happiest since it’s not a real thing anyway.”

Sorry, but I just can’t insult you like that.

But it IS true that today is the last day to make a contribution to AnniePAC.  And if you want to help me help you elect more conservatives in Nevada, please consider going online to anniepac.com/donate and kicking in $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 or more before midnight.

We have a state to save!

Happy to report I made it onto two prominent lists over the holiday season.

First, I was designated “Nice” on Americans for Tax Reform’s “Naughty and Nice” list “for submitting bills to create an anti-appropriations committee for Nevada, a spending restraint law and a tax cut for small businesses.”

Secondly, I made it onto Citizen Outreach’s “Top 10 Rising Conservative Stars” list for being “a fierce fighter, a principled conservative, an independent thinker and nobody’s ‘puppet.’”

Couldn’t have done it without YOU!  Thanks for your support.

Alas, I also ended up on liberal Nevada blogger Jon Ralston’s bad side just before Christmas.  He tweeted that I “will be a zero in the capital” when the 2021 session of the Nevada Legislature convenes.

He’s a charmer, that one!

* * *

Las Vegas Review-Journal political editor Steve Sebelius wrote a column last week headlined: “For Nevada lawmakers in 2021, it’s all about the budget.”  He’s right.  And if Democrat legislators have their way, tax hikes will definitely be on the menu.  From the column…

“Other lawmakers, however, have already declared their opposition to any tax increases. Newly elected Assemblywoman Annie Black, R-Mesquite, for example, wrote in a newsletter sent to constituents in December that she would not consider raising any taxes.”

Fact Check: TRUE.

Funny side note: In a story on Friday, the Associated Press incorrectly referred to Nevada “Gov. Steve Sebelius” rather than Gov. Steve Sisolak.  I’m chalking up the error to wishful thinking.

* * *

Sarah Chambers, a member of the Chicago Teachers Union executive board, is threatening a strike and urging teachers “not to return to work Monday because it’s unsafe.”

The kicker?  She did so poolside from her vacation resort in Puerto Rico.

* * *

Erica Pandey of Axios.com tweeted today: “Stunning stat: Just 5% of private schools were virtual this fall. Compare that with the 62% of public schoolkids who started the fall on Zoom.”

We need to fund students, not school systems.  Parents should be free to choose.

* * *

Assembly Bill 19, submitted by the Committee on Education, proposes removing “Government” as a “core academic subject” in social studies and replacing it with “Multicultural Education.”

As if our kids aren’t already ignorant enough about our unique system of government.  Just look at how many people refer to it as a “democracy” rather than a “republic.”  I’ll be a “no” vote on this one.

* * *

A bill filed in the New York Legislature would allow the governor or his designated minions to forcibly commit individuals to health “detention” facilities for an unspecified period of time if there is “evidence that the health care of others is or may be endangered by a case, contact or carrier of a contagious disease.”

Anyone so confined to such a detention facility “shall not conduct himself or herself in a disorderly manner, and shall not leave or attempt to leave such facility or premises until he or she is discharged” by the government.

This is terrifying.

* * *

In case you missed it, the Mesquite Police Department went forward this holiday season with its “Shop with a Cop” event, though slightly altered due to COVID safety concerns.

Fifty kids and their parents went on a “holiday shopping spree” at Walmart with police officers that was “totally funded with private donations.”  Each kid received $150 to spend.  What a great event.  Thanks for letting me participate!

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“I’m in Texas right now and the locals have been firing off fireworks everywhere for hours now that it sounds like a war zone.  Nothing is stopping them from celebrating #NYE.  Man, I love Texas.” – Nevada’s Courtney Holland, who’s driving to Washington, DC for the January 6 “Stop the Steal” rally on Capitol Hill

In Praise of…AOC?

by Annie Black December 23, 2020
written by Annie Black

(Annie Black) – They say even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

Speaking of nuts, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (“AOC”) – the card-carrying socialist from New York – actually got something right on Monday.

At issue is the “omnibus” COVID relief package approved by Congress that gives all of $600 of your tax money back to you while dishing out billions to pork, pet projects and foreign nations.

Stephen Moore of the Committee to Unleash Prosperity nicely captured the thoughts of fiscal conservatives on this bill…

“Republicans in Congress, en masse, voted for a monstrosity that violates EVERY principle of good economics, limited government, and fiscal conservatism. … Whatever happened to the GOP’s commitment to read the bill before they vote on it? We guess they will use the Pelosi strategy of finding out what’s in the bill AFTER they vote on it.”

That sentiment was echoed by a few (too few!) Members of Congress…

  • “5,600 pages. Votes are still expected today on this legislation. No one will be able to read it all in its entirety.” – Andy Biggs
  • “Omni text dropped. Looking forward to reading 5k+ page bill, understanding each provision, thinking about the larger implications for our country & making an informed decision on $2.3 trillion of YOUR dollars….in the next 4 hours.” – Dan Bishop
  • “They gave us 5,600 pages of legislation to vote on in a matter of hours. A $2.4T bill that nobody has time to read, so we can fund things that will harm our country & economic recovery.” – Chip Roy
  • “The Omnibus/COVID Relief Deal that the House is voting on tonight is 5,600 pages long and Members received the bill text at 2:00 PM. A few hours to review $2.3 TRILLION of government spending. This is no way to govern.” – Ron Wright
  • “We can expect a vote on a 5,600-page bill this evening. Can anyone read 1,000 pages in an hour? Asking for a few friends on the Hill and the American people.” – Warren Davidson
  • “They make these bills 5,500 pages so they can pass some obscene provision on page 3,400 and hope no one sees it until it’s passed. This method of trickery is pathetic.” – -elect Lauren Boebert
  • “The days of passing legislation ‘so that you can find out what is in it’ MUST END! Members of Congress must have ample time to review bills before votes. Attempts by leadership to jam bills through is an affront to democracy. We need transparency & time for due diligence.” – -elect Nicole Malliotakis

They are, of course, 100% correct.  And it’s not much of a surprise that conservative Republicans would object to such a flawed process for doing the public’s business.

But AOC?

Take a look at what Congresswoman Green-New-Deal tweeted on Monday…

“Members of Congress have not read this bill. It’s over 5000 pages, arrived at 2pm today, and we are told to expect a vote on it in 2 hours.  This isn’t governance. It’s hostage-taking.

“And by the way, it’s not just members who need to see the bill ahead of time – YOU do. The PUBLIC needs to see these bills w enough time to contact their rep to let them know how they feel.”

Knock me over with a feather!

Sadly, this vote-first-read-later style of legislating isn’t confined to the murky swamps of Washington, DC.  It goes on in Carson City every legislative session, as well.

The most recent example was the election overhaul bill (AB4) passed by the Nevada Legislature in the dead of night with only a few hours’ notice during August’s special session.

That’s why one of the bills I’ve introduced for the 2021 session – The Slam & Jam Prevention Act – would amend the Nevada Constitution to require that all bills be posted on a public website in their entirety, without amendment, for at least 48 hours before being voted on.

No longer should Nevada voters and taxpayers be forced to wait until after a bill is passed to find out what’s in it.

Heck, even AOC agrees with that!

Here’s Something You Don’t See Every Day

The Commission on Special License Plates has submitted a Bill Draft Request (BDR) which “Abolishes the Commission on Special License Plates.”

I’m a resounding “YES” on this one.  Only wish I’d thought of it myself!

QUOTES OF THE DAY

“I hope we never find life on another planet because if we do there’s no doubt that the United States will start sending them money!” – President Donald Trump

“This spending bill was nothing short of an embarrassment, created by legislative malpractice.” – Rep. Chip Roy

“I cannot, in good conscience, vote for this legislation that spends billions of taxpayer dollars on pet projects that have nothing to do with COVID relief or keeping the government funded.” – Rep. Ken Buck

“We are borrowing and worsening this debt crisis, in part, because too many governors and mayors have imposed heavy handed restrictions that crush business.” – Sen. Rand Paul

“The American people don’t want a $600 check from the government. They want their jobs back.” – Lance Gooden

“My daughter asked me if Socialism doesn’t work, why do people support it?  I said because they don’t work either.” – Lori Hendry

“Lockdowns crush the American Dream, not the coronavirus.” – Lisa Boothe

“It’s easy for people like Bill Gates and Dr. Fauci to opine on when life will get back to normal.  Their paychecks have never stopped.  Small business owners are getting slammed every single day & they need the economy to re-open!  It’s been almost ten months now!” – Congresswoman-elect Lauren Boebert (R-CO)

“The media clearly want to memory-hole their horrific behavior these last five years. They don’t get to. Our corrupt media truly have no idea how reviled and loathed they are by the average Americans who were deeply harmed by their fake stories and cartoonishly hostile coverage.” – Mollie Hemingway

“Allowing families to choose their grocery provider doesn’t ‘defund’ Safeway.  Allowing families to choose their education provider doesn’t ‘defund’ public schools.” – Corey A. DeAngelis

Here are 15 “Election Protection” Proposals: Did I Miss Anything?

by Annie Black December 21, 2020
written by Annie Black

(Annie Black) – The fact that you can’t “prove” someone did something in a court of law doesn’t mean the person didn’t do it.  Just ask OJ Simpson.

Election fraud deniers continue to insist there’s no evidence of “widespread” illegal voting in the 2020 elections and dismiss allegations to the contrary as “baseless.”  But where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

“Yes, vote fraud is real,” I wrote way back on April 11.  “Yes, it happens in Nevada.  And yes, mail-in elections increase the danger of vote fraud.”

And yes, as far as I’m concerned…OJ did it.

The Republican Party and the Trump campaign claim to have “overwhelming evidence” of ballots cast illegally in the 2020 general election, including thousands of dead people, non-citizens and non-Nevadans voting illegally.

But they’ve been unsuccessful “proving” it in court – usually due to some legal mumbo-jumbo technicality.

That said, rather than “re-fighting the last war,” I’m looking at how to protect our elections in the FUTURE.

Since getting my new, official State Assembly email address (Annie.Black@asm.state.nv.us), I’ve received more emails about election-related concerns than about any other issue.  By far.

People want to know their vote isn’t being cancelled out by an illegal vote.  Go figure.

As a freshman legislator, I’m allowed to introduce one more “bill draft request” (BDR) before the start of the 2021 session – and I’m thinking it should be an Election Protection reform bill to enhance the security of our elections and protect the integrity of your vote.

To get the ball rolling…

Assembly Bill 4 (AB4) – an election overhaul bill that authorized universal mail-in balloting, along with a lot of other bad stuff – was passed in the dead of night during a special session of the Legislature back in August with virtually no time for legislators, let alone the public, to read and understand what was in it.

Side Note: My proposed “Slam & Jam Prevention Act” bill would stop this.

AB4 was sold to us as just an “emergency” measure due to COVID-19, but you can bet some legislators are going to try to make these changes permanent.  Instead, we should repeal AB4 in its entirety.

Here are 15 other “Election Protection” reform proposals for consideration…

1.)  Requiring a valid, photo ID before casting a ballot.

2.)  Ban on universal mailing of ballots unless a voter specifically REQUESTS an absentee ballot.

3.)  Proof of citizenship to register to vote.

4.)  Ban the use of signature verification machines.  Something this important shouldn’t be left to “artificial intelligence.”

5.)  Permanent ban on “ballot harvesting.”

6.)  Ban on mailing ballots to “inactive” voters – which Clark County did in the primary.

7.)  Repeal “same-day registration.”  We need to confirm a voter’s eligibility before Election Day, not after.

8.)  Automatic recount or audit, at government expense, for races decided by less than a 1% margin.

9.)  Specifically define what qualifies as working “temporarily” out of state.  Students and military are already exempted.  But what about everybody else?

10.)  Specifically define what “meaningful observation” means when it comes to independently monitoring poll locations, ballot counting and signature verification.

11.)  Ban on voting in districts where the voter doesn’t “actually” live.  People who don’t live in a district shouldn’t be allowed to vote for who gets to represent the district.

12.)  Mail-in ballots must be RECEIVED by Election Day.  If you’re afraid the post office won’t deliver your ballot in time, mail sooner, vote early or vote on Election Day in person.

13.)  Ban on opening mail-in ballot envelopes until after the polls have closed.

14.)  Enhanced procedures for removing dead people from the voting list.

15.)  Ban on changing election laws after the filing period has already closed.  Candidates, voters and donors shouldn’t have the rules changed in the middle of the game like what happened with AB4.

What did I miss?

Before submitting my final BDR, please shoot me any other ideas you have on this critical issue.

Annie.Black@asm.state.nv.us

And Merry Christmas!

Annie

QUOTES OF THE DAY

“Our view of the presidential election is that there was widespread fraud. But we generally agree with the WSJ’s Kim Strassel that the election was lost months before November 3rd when Democrats – who always knew that fraud-laden mail-in balloting was their passport to victory – outwitted the GOP by conspiring to allow near-universal early mail voting. Republicans allowed this with almost no safeguards of ballot integrity. Once a vote is delivered and counted, it is nearly impossible to un-count it.” – Stephen Moore, Committee to Unleash Prosperity

Read This Only if Gov. Sisolak Makes Your Blood Boil

by Annie Black December 19, 2020
written by Annie Black

(Annie Black) – We are now officially in the TENTH(!) month of the #SisolakShutdown.

Since last March, too many Nevadans have gotten the shaft by Gov. Steve Sisolak, weak-kneed local politicians, hordes of government bureaucrats and “compliance cops.”

And don’t even get me started on the DETR Disaster in handling unemployment claims!

Sadly, many screwed-over Nevadans are unable to fight back – or even “peacefully protest” – without risking fines, threats of business license revocation and political retribution.

You need a voice.  You need a champion.  You need a fighter.

Someone on the “inside” who will make a stink, rock the boat, stir the pot, sound the horn, bang the gong, pound the drum and shout from the rafters.

Someone who will speak up, speak out and speak loudly.

I want to be that person for you.  I *AM* that person.

And have been since I filed to run for the Nevada State Assembly just four days before Gov. Sisolak shut us down, put us out of work and tanked our economy.

Will you help me help you?

I need to raise money to build and grow a world-class communications network linking directly to citizens during the session – social media, emails, newspaper ads, billboards, TV & radio.

You shouldn’t be left in the dark when decisions are being made in Carson City that could directly harm you, your family, your job, your wallet and your very freedom!

There’s strength in numbers.

It’s one thing when 10 people call or email legislators on a bill.  It’s another thing altogether when a 1,000 people speak up.

But unless you know exactly what’s going on, who to contact and how…it’s tough for the “little guy” to compete with the army of highly-paid lobbyists and government employee unions that prowl the halls of the Legislature.

As a fiscal conservative, I’m proud to say I’ve already paid off all my campaign debt.

But I still need to raise an additional $20,000 between now and the end of the year – when the fundraising “blackout” period kicks in – to set up, staff and maintain a “citizen lobbyist” operation that you can quickly and easily use to have your voice heard.

Will you help fund this critical project?

The amount of your donation is totally up to you.  Only you, and you alone, can decide how important it is to keep fighting Gov. Sisolak and block the tax-and-spend gang in Carson City.

  • If you can invest $1,000 or $500…GREAT
  • If you can invest $250 or $100…GREAT
  • If you can invest $50 or $25…GREAT
  • If you can invest $10, $5 or even just $1…GREAT

Every little bit helps!

Whatever the amount, you’ll feel good knowing you’re supporting a “people’s champion” who will fight for you against their tax hikes, as well as fight for cuts in non-essential government spending.

And that includes laying off non-essential government workers just as the governor has forced layoffs of what he thinks are non-essential private sector workers.

If we’re supposed to be “all in this together,” government needs to suffer the same pain the government is causing you and me.

Agreed?

So please make your donation – either personally or through your business – quickly, easily and securely online by going to: www.electannieblack.com/donate

Thank you for taking time to read this and I hope to add you as a soldier in “Annie’s Army” as we fight against the heavy-handed, unconstitutional, dictatorial regime of Gov. Sisolak.

Merry Christmas!

Assemblywoman Annie Black
Nevada State Assembly District 19
“Once you vote Black, you never look back.”

P.S.  Your donation, no matter how big or how small, will be a valuable investment in keeping Nevada from becoming “another California.”  But remember…

Because of the fundraising “blackout” period, I need to receive your gift before midnight, December 31, 2020.
