MVP: “Let Our People Go” Is Message Of Mesquite Rally

(Amy Davis | Moapa Valley Progress) – Despite having received a “Notice of Violation” from the City of Mesquite, City Councilwoman Annie Black led a “Freedom and Liberty” protest at Sun Valley Plaza at 9 a.m on Saturday, May 9. It was the third protest rally of its kind in as many weeks.

Black had received the notice earlier in the week because of an alleged lack of compliance regarding social distancing in prior events. The notice recommended that she voluntarily cancel the event.

Before opening the rally with prayer, Pastor Duke said, “I just want you to know, that we support every single business in this town opening up 100 percent. If we don’t have the jobs back in this community then this community dies.”

He invited the crowd to engage in “a little civil disobedience” and join him for Sunday worship the following day. “Our doors are going to be open and we welcome you to come,” he said.

Congressional District 4 candidate Sam Peters was in attendance at thsi week’s rally and took an opportunity to speak to the crowd.

“What a great showing of patriots for Nevada!” Peters said. “Annie has been fighting for a reopen, she has been fighting for a recall of Governor Sisolak who has stripped you of constitutional rights and my hat goes out to you, Annie.”

Peters told the crowd that he stands for God, country, family, life, guns and the liberties ; all rights which the constitution had assured. “I will continue to fight for you and bring a conservative voice to Washington,” he said. “I will stand up for our president and his America First agenda and I will back people like Annie all day long.”

Black then took the podium telling the crowd that she would not back down in her right to peacefully protest. “They tried to shut us down, but the thing that these tyrants don’t understand is the more they try to silence us, the more they try to take our rights, the more it unites us, the more powerful it makes us,” Black said.

Shortly after Black’s remarks, the crowd disbursed, going to their cars which had been decorated with American flags and phrases of protest. The cars left the parking lot in a caravan which wended its way through the streets of Mesquite.

It was the most well attended protest to date. In contrast to the previous protests, this crowd included several families with young children and teens. The caravan drove a loop around the city honking horns in a display of patriotism.

In response to Sisolak’s Phase I business reopening, Black said that opening just a few businesses was not enough. She said that if casinos were not allowed to open, many people would still be out of work.

“If you are safe in a restaurant, you are safe in a church,” Black said. “If you are safe in a hair salon, you are safe in a movie theater. If you are safe standing in line at Walmart, you are safe standing in line to vote! Enough is enough, Governor Sisolak. Let our People go!”
