(Amy Davis | Moapa Valley Progress) – Mesquite Councilwoman Annie Black hosted a peacable “Morning in Mesquite Rally” BBQ and breakfast at 9 AM on Saturday, May 2 at Sun Valley Plaza in Mesquite.
The Plaza was filled with cars, community members, music and American flags. Black had one message. “Our economy and our country are dying,” she said. “It is time to get back to work. Now.”
Black said that many of the people that she has talked to are out of work and in trouble. She said that she has been working hard to help people get in touch with state unemployment services to be able to draw unemployment.
“I don’t know how much longer people can continue without getting paid,” said Black. “Especially with people unable to even get a hold of the unemployment office. We can’t do it anymore. We know the risk and those of us that are willing to take the risk should have the freedom to do it.” …
Black told the crowd that she would do all she could to stand for them. “I am not telling you not to be compliant,” she said. “I just think we need to think about what is happening in our country. We are strong. We are powerful. This group has the ability to move this state and country forward if we so choose. I am asking everyone to help me get this country back to work.”
