(Annie Black) – Nevada’s gaming industry is scared to death that Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak will once again shut down the Strip over media-fueled virus panic. Which is a legitimate fear.
What’s NOT legitimate is to blame and shame those who have freely chosen not to get the COVID vaccine.
The threat of a new Sisolak Shutdown 2.0 comes entirely from the governor himself and the Democrat majority in both houses of the Nevada Legislature which refused to even discuss limiting his “emergency” powers in this year’s session, let alone vote on it.
As for the remaining unvaccinated…
Maybe they don’t trust the vaccine because it was, understandably, rushed to market and no one yet knows what long-term side effects might be caused by it. This is a legitimate concern. Consider, for example…
Accutane, a popular acne drug, was FDA-approved and sold for 27 years before being taken off the market due to “extremely serious side effects” that were later discovered, “including depression, psychosis, and suicide — and, when taken by pregnant women, miscarriage or birth defects.”
27…YEARS.
The COVID vaccines have been on the market for six MONTHS.
Add the fact that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and COVID czar Anthony Fauci have been all over the map on how to deal with the virus. What the “science” said one day was completely changed on another.
Not exactly a confidence builder.
Then there were all the Democrats last fall who undermined faith in the vaccine for purely political reasons: They didn’t want President Donald Trump to get credit for its development through Operation Warp Speed.
Remember last September when Kamala Harris flatly told CNN’s Dana Bash that “I would not trust Donald Trump” when it came to the “efficacy and the reliability” of the vaccine, adding, “I will not take his word for it”?
Causing further doubt, Gov. Sisolak has now ordered mandatory mask wearing again – even for those who have gotten the vaccine!
This makes absolutely no sense. If the vaccine is effective, why do the vaccinated still have to wear a mask? And if masks are effective, why the government propaganda drive to strong-arm and bribe people into getting the vaccine?
Oh, and why are the homeless exempted from the new mask mandate? That makes ZERO sense. What’s the “science” behind that?
Such contradictory messaging doesn’t exactly inspire the public’s confidence in those who are now bleating like sheep that too many people have chosen not to get the COVID jab.
Then there’s the intentional cherry-picking of facts and figures when reporting to the public.
The fact is – rarely stated or reported – that the COVID survival rate was somewhere in the neighborhood of 98% at the pandemic’s height. And the number of deaths today – thanks to President Trump’s vaccine – is FAR less.
There’s simply no “emergency” justifying Gov. Sisolak’s continued abuse of emergency powers.
And his panicked over-reaction to the virus initially – as well as his subsequent mismanaged, contradictory and politically-motivated “emergency” orders – has totally undermined his credibility with a large segment of Nevadans.
For example, Drew Kelley of Goldfield, Nevada wrote in a letter-to-the-editor published by the Las Vegas Review-Journal today…
“Masking is now mandatory indoors in counties with high transmission rates. This includes Esmeralda County with its 41 cases and zero deaths. This is a poke in the eye from the governor to the residents of a county that didn’t vote for him and has no intention of voting for him in the future.”
Indeed, if Sisolak declared today that people should brush their teeth before going to bed, many Nevadans would wonder what cynical political motivation was behind it and probably give the advice a second thought.
Vaccine hesitancy among many is a self-created problem by Democrats and their allies in the media who weaponized COVID fear for purely political purposes. They have no one to blame but themselves.
The vaccine is widely available. It’s free. Nevertheless, many have assessed the risks and have chosen to assume those risks by not getting the jab.
It’s their body. It’s their choice. So get off their back.
The public policy position of Nevada’s elected officials should be the same as mine…
- Wear a mask if you want
- Don’t wear one if you don’t
- Get the shot if you want
- Don’t get it if you don’t
- No mandatory masks for kids in schools
- NO VACCINE PASSPORTS!
This is Nevada, not Cuba.
And if Nevada’s gaming industry doesn’t want to see a Sisolak Shutdown 2.0, it needs to aim its fire and ire at those who are actually posing that threat…
