Sisolak’s Wu-Flu Over-Reaction Continues to Make No Sense

(Annie Black) – Gov. Steve Sisolak continues to botch his response to the coronavirus situation, issuing one confusing, contradictory edict after another.

This morning he posted a message on Twitter “reminding drivers to #StayHomeForNevada.”

How does driving around alone in your car risk spreading the flu virus…but cramming into a public transportation bus with a bunch of strangers doesn’t?

And on Sunday he AGAIN changed his definition of “essential” businesses; ruling that liquor stores now must close.

Why is walking up and down the aisles of a liquor store a health risk but not walking up and down the liquor aisles of a grocery store?

That doesn’t make any sense.

And…

Why is PetSmart open but not BestBuy?

Why are child care and day care centers allowed to remain open but schools are closed?

Why are laundromats open but not barber shops?

Why are gyms closed but not churches?

Why is it OK to allow curbside pickup for food but not medical marijuana?

Why can office buildings with dozens of people inside remain open but small retail stores can’t operate under the condition that only one customer be allowed in the store at a time?

Why can you hike into the Lake Mead National Recreation Area but you can’t drive into the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, park and take a hike?

Why is it that “non-essential” workers in the private sector are being laid off but not non-essential government workers?

None of this makes any sense.

And Nevadans are being devastated by it.  Here’s an email I received this morning…

“I’m in rural Nevada where my husband and I own and operate a restaurant. Revenue is down 90%. Curbside pick-up and delivery is what we are relying on (and God). What can we do?  We continue to have bills but no income.”

Indeed, the NFIB Research Center released the results of a new poll today showing that the “magnitude of disruption now on the small business sector is profound,” with “76% of small businesses negatively impacted by the outbreak of the coronavirus.”

“The outbreak will leave few, if any, owners unscathed,” NFIB noted in a press release.  “We know the economic impact will be immense, and now, the question is how long will it last and how quickly can the small business sector recover once on the other side. Small business owners are anxious to seek clarity to both questions.”

Clarity that is decidedly NOT coming from the governor’s office.

And it’s not just business owners.  How are average Nevada families supposed to pay their rent and mortgages when their jobs have been eliminated?

And here’s another problem shared with me that the governor apparently hasn’t thought about…

“I am in a unique, and scary, position. I am an ‘essential’ business, managing property. I have to keep my employees working to service the tenants. However, tenants are being told not to pay rent. We generate revenue based on the rent paid. So we are rolling into times of no revenue but even higher costs as we will be spending extra time working with slow or no-paying tenants.”

The banks are going to continue demanding that the owners of rental properties pay their mortgages on their rental properties…which they do from the rent paid by Nevadans who now don’t have jobs and are being told not to pay the rent.

Simply waiving late fees and penalties doesn’t fix this problem.

And how many renters and home owners are going to now have their credit ruined thanks to the governor’s shutdown order and through no fault of their own?

Lastly…

On Sunday the governor announced he was creating an “task force” – to be led by a gaming executive and huge donor to his campaign in 2018 – “to see us through this crisis in the best way possible.”

An unelected task force “to assist in ongoing efforts undertaken by State agencies and the Nevada Health Response Center” – but NOT the elected members of the Nevada State Legislature?

None of this makes sense.

  1. A bully and a slug like our idiot so called govenor wouldn’t listen to anyone with common sense because then he would have to admit that he was wrong.

  2. You are right Andy Black from Oilmont Montana, my sister owns a bar cafe four corners Montana, and I work there help her out, she is shut down to, and all her employees including me, small businesses are being devastated around here to, they’re going to send her $1,200 for a year what a joke, keep up the good work Kim.

  3. Thank you for saying what you’re saying!!! I’m so nervous that no one is standing up to the government shutdown, that no one is talking about a plan to get us back out of it, that no one is considering the economic and social costs to our state and country. We need you to keep representing the large group of us who feel like you feel!

  4. Once again Annie is ON THE mark. Sisolak is a disaster in &300.00 shoes. He should lay himself off andturn his pay toward helping the truly needy and desperate. No government workers are sharing the misery! WHY?

  5. I have 4 questions I need answered….
    1) how in the world is a car dealership essential
    2) why are churches closed but not 1 Muslim House of worship
    3) seeing how “the top doctors” blew it big time with their models on this bug, what’s going to happen when a REAL BAD BUG hits? Are we going to bow down to GOVERNMENT again or are we going to say ” ya, right, you mean like the bug of 2020????
    4) why are we so will to give up our Rights just cuz a doc says we should? IE….RIGHT TO ASSEMBLE,the right of travel and Freedom to practice our religion?????
